This is one of many authentic Mexican restaurants in the Wallingford and Meriden area. But El Amigo is by far the best. First off the menu is much larger than most Taquerias, and they also serve beer at extremely low prices. These two reasons alone set them apart from the competition.
The food is fresh and flavorful. The guacamole is always delicious. And the salsas that come free with chips are amazing, they are worth the trip alone. I always ask for extra because they are good on everything, and did I mention free. I always get a burrito bowl and mix two meats, the standouts for me are the shredded beef, shredded pork, and chorizo. Recently I had the ground beef, which sounds simple, but El Amigo has managed to make it more juicy and flavorful than any other. My wife opts for the chicken tacos, the chicken is cut into small bite sized morsels, tender with a nice flavor. The ceviche is also as good as high end Latin restaurants, at a fraction of the price. The portions are great, I never leave hungry.
The service is always amazing, when a restaurant is run by a family, you know they take pride in what they serve, and how they serve it. Don't hesitate to try El Amigo, you will not be disappointed. -

Go here! Forget Las Olas across the street. $2 Tequila Shots... 1800, Jimador, and Cuervo. Great food... Low prices. Lots of free crispy chips and three zippy salsas. Try the tacos for sure. Friendly staff. Service is slow... Who cares... Drink a margarita and enjoy chips with Salsa. Enjou chunky

I could get past the poor customer service if the business was run better, but I came in to the women drinking behind the counter, even cracking open a new beer while making food and a generally rundown, not so fresh looking business. Plenty of better options in the area.
Extremely rude. I ordered takeout to share and got the torta combo which is supposed to come with a torta and taco. When I ordered, the cashier was extremely condescending and asked if I knew what I was ordering and insisted I didn't. I explained that yes, I know what a torta is which is why I ordered it and that I speak fluent Spanish, to which I was laughed at. Got home and half my order is missing. Called and explained, and had the phone passed to 4 different people, the last of whom was incredibly rude and said it's not their fault but I could come back. So all the way back across town I go, just to get handed a $10 with no apology. I explained that I was unhappy and how rudely I was treated and was met with another oh well and not their problem. Definitely not returning. -

Taqueria El Amigo earns a solid three-star A-OK rating from me! The prices are great, the girls who were running it were very nice, and the chips and salsa was incredible. Overall the prices were very good too! I'd like to see how this place runs when fully staffed... there were only two people working on our visit so things took a bit with a few tables. All in all I'll check it out again and love the authentic food here!

I love the tacos here but there is always a problem with my order when we deliver. They either do not give us enough sauce or they forget an item. Get that right and you will get 5 stars.
